Floor Drains

Floor drains are found in garages, laundry rooms, basements, patios, driveways, and even bathrooms. Floor drains are constructed with a trap that is filled with water to prevent odors and sewer gas from escaping. Floor drains should be periodically tested to make sure they are aren't clogged and thus prevent flooding. To test, pour a gallon of water into the drain. Over time, dirt and debris can clog floor drains but Neighborhood Plumbing & Sewer Service can clear them quickly to restore good drainage.

Tips to Keep Your Floor Drains Clog Free

  • Install a lint trap on your washing machine discharge hose (available at most hardware stores). This will keep a lot of loose fiber from entering your drain system.
  • Keep your floor drain's surrounding area free of dirt, dust and debris to prevent objects from entering and clogging the "P" trap.
